Fathom
AI meeting notetaker for Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams that records, transcribes, and summarizes calls, then syncs notes and action items to CRMs and collaboration tools.
A low-risk, strong-value AI notetaker: an unusually generous free tier (vendor positioning), competitive Team pricing, and a legitimate lightweight revenue-intelligence stack on Business. Pilot on Free to validate transcription quality before committing seats.
Overview
Fathom (fathom.video) is an AI meeting notetaker that records, transcribes, summarizes, and indexes conversations across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Aimed primarily at sales, customer success, and other customer-facing teams, it captures calls either with a meeting bot or via a bot-free capture mode (in beta), then generates summaries, action items, and searchable transcripts seconds after a call ends. The vendor positions the product as a lighter-weight alternative to revenue-intelligence suites like Gong, and its free tier is unusually generous for the category — a key reason it is often the first notetaker a team pilots.
This review is compiled from Fathom's official pricing page, product pages, and help center documentation, with all claims attributed and verification dates noted. We have not performed hands-on testing; performance and quality statements from the vendor are flagged as vendor claims.
Company and product background
Fathom is built by Fathom Video, Inc. The product began as a free individual notetaker and has progressively added team collaboration and revenue-intelligence features. In August 2025 the company restructured its packaging: legacy Team Edition Standard became "Team," and Team Edition Pro became "Business" (per the Fathom help center article "What does Fathom cost?"). As of our review date the vendor advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee on paid plans.
Features
Capture and transcription. Fathom joins Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams calls automatically and transcribes in real time. The help center documents unlimited transcriptions in 38 languages on all plans, including Free. A notable differentiator is the choice of capture type: a traditional meeting bot or "bot-free" capture, which the company describes as a beta capability.
AI summaries and action items. Every call ends with an instant AI-generated summary, with decisions and action items extracted automatically. Paid plans unlock "advanced" summary templates, custom summaries, and AI-generated follow-up emails. On the Free plan, advanced summaries are limited to the first 5 calls per month; after that only the general/enhanced template is available (help center, "Free vs. Premium for Individuals").
Ask Fathom (AI meeting assistant). A ChatGPT-style interface for querying meetings — per-call on free plans, and across your full call history on paid plans. Paid tiers have unlimited lookback for "my calls," with a lookback window on team calls that varies by plan tier (pricing page).
Trackers. AI tagging that automatically flags moments across calls — competitor mentions, objections, feature requests — and routes them to Slack, email, or in-app notifications. This is Fathom's answer to conversation-intelligence keyword tracking and is available on team plans.
Team workspace and search. Team plans add shared recordings, team folders, comments and mentions, a customer-facing view, keyword alerts, and attendee/keyword search across all team meetings. Playlists of highlights can be assembled from multiple calls.
Revenue intelligence (Business plan). Business adds CRM field sync that updates records automatically after meetings, a Deal View that aggregates every call tied to a deal into one timeline with an AI relationship summary, AI analysis of deal health/risk/momentum, and customizable AI Scorecards for call coaching.
Enterprise controls. The Enterprise tier adds SSO and SCIM provisioning, organization-wide security controls, custom data retention programs, a Launch Assist onboarding program, a dedicated success manager, and priority support SLAs.
Pricing (verified 2026-10-31 from fathom.video/pricing)
- Free — $0. Unlimited recordings and storage, instant AI summaries, transcription in 38 languages, clips/playlists/search, choice of bot or bot-free capture. Advanced summaries capped at 5 calls/month.
- Premium (individual) — $20/user/month, or $16/user/month billed annually.
- Team — $19/user/month, or $15/user/month billed annually; 2-user minimum. Adds team workspace, Trackers, global search, playlists, collaboration features, customized transcription vocabulary, and SSO (per pricing-page feature matrix).
- Business — $34/user/month, or $25/user/month billed annually; 2-user minimum. Adds CRM field sync, Deal View, coaching metrics and AI scorecards, and custom summaries.
- Enterprise — custom pricing via sales; adds the security and onboarding controls listed above.
Notable programs the vendor advertises: up to 2 years free of Team for startups affiliated with select VCs and accelerators, 10 free seats for nonprofits, and a switching offer for teams coming from Gong that includes data migration. CRM sync on free and premium individual plans is limited to up to 3 users per email domain (help center).
Integrations
Fathom's integration surface is broad for its price point:
- Conferencing: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Slack Huddles capture (per the vendor's integrations pages).
- CRM: Salesforce, HubSpot, and Close CRM. Salesforce and HubSpot integrations write call summaries, action items, and meeting content to matching contacts, accounts, and opportunities; HubSpot supports custom field mapping and in-CRM "cards" showing the last five meetings for a record. Salesforce must be connected at the team level by an admin, and Deal View is Business-plan only.
- Collaboration and tasks: Slack, Notion, Asana.
- Automation and AI: Zapier (including retroactive triggers, a reviewed case-by-case service), webhooks, a public API and MCP server (developers.fathom.ai), plus ChatGPT and Claude integrations.
- Browser: A Chrome extension for in-browser capture and workflows.
This is a strong story for sales teams on Salesforce or HubSpot: summaries and next steps flow into the CRM without rep data entry, and Business-tier field sync extends this to structured deal-level updates.
Security and compliance
The vendor states Fathom is SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA and GDPR compliant, with a signed BAA available on enterprise-appropriate plans (trust.fathom.video and product pages). Enterprise adds SSO/SCIM and custom retention.
Weaknesses and considerations
- Free-tier advanced summaries are capped (5 calls/month), so individual power users may feel pushed to Premium quickly.
- Team-call lookback for the AI assistant is limited by plan tier, which matters for teams that want long-horizon coaching analysis.
- Several headline revenue-intelligence features — Deal View, AI scorecards, org-level CRM sync — are Business-plan only, effectively setting the real entry point for sales teams above the $15 Team tier.
- The vendor's published productivity stats (e.g., "95% of users say Fathom helps them stay fully present," "6+ hours saved per team member every week") are vendor claims, not independently audited results.
- Legacy Team Edition plans still exist in billing and help documentation; buyers should confirm which plan generation they are being quoted.
