Quick Verdict

A focused, well-executed waterfall enrichment tool with a buyer-friendly pay-only-for-valid-data model; best as a high-coverage component for outbound-heavy teams, not as core infrastructure.

Overview

BetterContact (bettercontact.rocks) is a waterfall contact-data enrichment platform: instead of querying a single data vendor, it submits each contact through a sequence of 20+ third-party providers — publicly named ones include Apollo, RocketReach, ContactOut, Hunter, Datagma, People Data Labs, Prospeo, and Enrich.so — until a verified email or mobile phone number is found. Its positioning rests on three promises that distinguish it from single-source vendors: higher combined find rates, multi-layer verification before anything is billed, and a pay-only-for-valid-data pricing model.

The company was founded in 2022 in France by Frédéric Bonnand and Roman Hipp, with headquarters in Paris and roots in Lyon, per LinkedIn company data. Note (2026-10-31): earlier third-party trackers described it as bootstrapped with no outside funding, but the site's own navigation and homepage now state it is 'backed by the Landbase Applied AI Lab' (AI Lab led by Hua Gao), so the funding picture may have changed. Contact@bettercontact.rocks is the listed contact address.

What it does

BetterContact's core workflow has four stages:

  1. Input. Contacts enter via CSV upload, a documented API (batch requests of up to 100 contacts per call), or one of the vendor's stated 28 native integrations, including Clay, HubSpot, Google Sheets, Make, and Zapier. A "Waterfall Lead Finder" feature can also build lists from scratch.
  2. Provider routing ("BetterAI"). Per its own marketing, an algorithm orders which provider to query first based on geography, industry, and seniority, using what it describes as 545M+ historical data points. Per the vendor homepage, the AI is 'Powered by Claude OpenAI' (vendor claim, phrased that way on the site; the underlying model provider is not independently verified), and the site also states BetterContact is backed by the Landbase Applied AI Lab (AI Lab led by Hua Gao). Regional specialization matters here: the vendor states some providers are stronger in the US, others in EMEA, LATAM, or APAC, so routing order is central to the pitch.
  3. Verification. Every candidate email passes validation including syntax, MX, SMTP, and catch-all detection (through Bouncer); every mobile number passes format, geo-matching, HLR carrier checks, and activity scoring. The vendor homepage says 36.3% of provider-returned data fails its verification and is discarded at BetterContact's own cost (vendor-reported). The vendor's own site is inconsistent on layer count: the homepage describes a 4-layer validator, while the same site elsewhere advertises '5-layer-validated' contact data and a 5-layer validation gate — both are vendor claims, and the exact layer count is not independently verified.
  4. Delivery. Results return via API, webhooks, integrations, or CSV export with field-level mapping.

Only when a data point passes verification is a credit charged. Emails cost 1 credit each; mobile numbers cost 10 credits each.

Pricing

Pricing is credit-based and transparent, per the official pricing page (verified 2026-10-31):

  • Starter — $15/month: waterfall access to all 20+ providers, email verification, API and integrations, credit roll-over, chat support. A free 50-credit trial (no credit card) is available. Starter includes a 200-credit monthly allocation (20 mobiles or 200 emails, since 1 mobile = 10 credits).
  • Pro — from $49/month (1,000 credits): everything in Starter plus Connect Intelligence™ (connect-likelihood scoring for mobile numbers), phone verification, catch-all email verification at no extra charge, and Clay/Zapier integrations, with priority support. Pro credit volumes are selectable: 1,000/3,000/5,000/10,000/20,000/30,000/50,000 credits per month starting at $49/mo for 1,000 (higher tiers priced at checkout).
  • Enterprise — from $799/month (above 20,000 credits): custom volume discounts, a dedicated account manager, and bring-your-own API keys for existing provider subscriptions.

The credit model is the distinctive commercial feature: no charge for misses. On catch-alls the vendor's own pages conflict: the pricing page and API docs say catch-all verification is included at no extra charge on Pro/Enterprise (and 'no charge for catch-alls whatsoever' on the pay-only-for-valid feature card), while the FAQ states 1 additional credit per valid catch-all, unused credits roll over capped at 2× the monthly allocation (the pricing page's example: hold up to 10,000 on a 5,000-credit package), and the pricing page's annual toggle advertises 2 months free (a specific 12-month rollover duration on annual plans is not stated on any vendor page — unverified). Connect Intelligence buckets each found mobile number into free "bad/low propensity" (3–7% connect likelihood) versus paid "P1" high-propensity numbers (20–30%), so you are billed only for the numbers worth dialing.

The vendor's own comparison lists what buying comparable access to its providers individually would cost (a ~$1,044/month stack vs. $49/month), which is a marketing figure, not an independent benchmark — but the underlying point, that a waterfall subscription replaces multiple provider contracts, is structural rather than inflated.

Who it's for

The profile that fits best, based on the vendor's own positioning and the customer mix it reports (roughly 72% outbound agencies): teams running meaningful enrichment volume over mixed geographies where a single provider's 30–60% find rate is the actual bottleneck, teams whose sending reputation depends on verified deliverability, and European outbound motions where mobile coverage matters. It fits poorly for teams needing company context or intent data alongside contact info, teams wanting deep CRM automation or reporting, and Salesforce/Pipedrive shops without integration support beyond HubSpot and Sheets.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • ✓ Coverage-first waterfall across 20+ named providers under one subscription
  • ✓ Credits charged only after verification; catch-all verification included on Pro/Enterprise, though the vendor FAQ says valid catch-alls can incur 1 extra credit
  • ✓ Deep multi-layer email and phone verification included in credit price
  • ✓ Waterfall Lead Finder builds ICP-specific lists from scratch with 30+ filters (firmographics, tech stack, funding, hiring, job-change signals) — vendor claims 5–10% more valid leads than legacy providers
  • ✓ 28 native integrations per vendor, including Clay, HubSpot, Google Sheets, Make, Zapier
  • ✓ GDPR/CCPA compliance and EU data residency stated; accessible $15/mo entry with free 50-credit trial

Limitations

  • ✗ List building is limited to the Waterfall Lead Finder (30+ ICP filters across firmographics, tech stack, hiring, funding) — no intent signals or company/context enrichment for already-known contacts
  • ✗ Waterfall is opaque: provider attribution and sequence customization not available
  • ✗ No analytics or dashboards; no SOC 2/ISO 27001/SSO per third-party reviews
  • ✗ Higher cost per record than strong single-source vendors
  • ✗ Team size not independently verified; the vendor site now claims backing from the Landbase Applied AI Lab (vendor claim, 2026-10-31)

Integrations

Clay HubSpot Google Sheets Make Zapier

Use Cases

  • Enrich an existing contact list: upload CSV or push via API/integration (including Clay's BetterContact actions) to find verified work emails and mobiles, then route qualified contacts into sequencers and trigger follow-ups when a valid phone is found.
  • Build new ICP-targeted lists from scratch with the Waterfall Lead Finder: filter a 500M+ multi-source database by firmographics, tech stack, funding, hiring velocity, and persona seniority, then export verified contacts (vendor-claimed 5-layer validation on database reads).

Who Should Use Bettercontact?

Best for

  • ✓Outbound agencies and SDR teams enriching mixed-geography lists where single-provider find rates fall short
  • ✓European/EMEA-focused outreach needing strong mobile coverage
  • ✓Teams that want pay-per-verified-data billing with no charge for misses
  • ✓Teams building ICP-specific lists via the Waterfall Lead Finder's 30+ filters
  • ✓Phone-first teams that want connect-likelihood scoring (Connect Intelligence, Pro plan)

Not ideal for

  • —Teams needing intent signals or a full prospecting database beyond the Waterfall Lead Finder's ICP filters
  • —Teams requiring enrichment analytics, reporting, or deep CRM automation
  • —Salesforce/Pipedrive/Dynamics users without API or middleware support
  • —Buyers needing SOC 2 / ISO 27001 attestation or customizable provider sequences
